JOHN OLIVER CALLS ON FEDERAL GOVERNMENT FOR LGBT RIGHTS

While the ruling by SCOTUS in favour of same-sex marriage was an historic event, same-sex couples are still fighting for basic civil rights.

“Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver is calling on the federal government to change the fact that discrimination due to sexual orientation is legal.

“In 31 states, people are at risk of being fired, evicted, or refused service just because they are gay,” Oliver said on Sunday. “Just look at Arkansas right now. Not only do they not have any anti-discrimination ordinances, earlier this year they actually passed an anti-anti-discrimination ordinance that prevents any city or country from extending civil rights protections to gay people.”
