Gambian dictator Yayah Jammeh has threatened to “slit the throats” of any homosexuals living in the country. The dictator made the threat in response to Western leaders who have spoken out against the nation’s regressive attitude toward homosexuality.
“If you are a man and want to marry another man in this country and we catch you, no one will ever set eyes on you again, and no white person can do anything about it,” said the Gambian President.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time that the Gambian leader has spoken out about his notoriously homophobic opinions.
In January of last year, Jammeh stated that gay people would doom the world.
“All empires before collapsed not at the time they were weakest, but at the peak of their might and when they equated themselves with the Almighty Allah. So this evil empire of homosexuals will also go down the dirty drain and garbage of hell.”
Then, in February of last year, the Gambian leader referred to homosexuals as “vermin” and vowed to fight them “the same way we are fighting malaria-causing mosquitos, if not more aggressively.” He also said he would kill anyone who used oppression of LGBT people as a reason for seeking refuge abroad.
Jammeh has also made claims that he is able to cure HIV and AIDS with natural herb remedies, and that he allowed “too much expression” before introducing draconian attacks on the freedom of the press in 2005.
