On April 3, Nicole Morgan came home to find every parent’s worst nightmare; her 12-year-old daughter, Alyssa, had taken her own life.

Young Alyssa Morgan has recently come out as bisexual to her family who reassured her that they would love her no matter what. Alyssa’s school mates, however, were not so accepting.

For nearly a month prior to her suicide, Alyssa had not attended school due to the severity of bullying she was facing that increased as a result of her coming out.

Nicole Morgan says she recalls her daughter coming home from school crying on several occasions.

When Nicole reached out to school administration for support, the administration’s response was that Alyssa should “toughen up”. Even after Alyssa’s suicide, the school administration seems unconcerned.

Alyssa is described as a typical 12-year-old girl who loved drawing and wearing makeup. Her mother doesn’t remember anything out of the ordinary before Alyssa entered the garage to hang herself.

Sadly, Alyssa is not the first student from her school to die by suicide as a result of homophobic bullying. Two years ago, AJ Betts took his own life at 16 after enduring anti-gay bullying at school.
