Here's her full response:
"I like the diversity that my children are exposed to every day. I love the way their brains work. Joe turns to me the other day and says, 'One day, I will have a girlfriend. But I might have a boyfriend. If I'm gay.' He's seven! And I said, 'You might have a girlfriend or boyfriend, darling.' And he said, 'Which would you prefer?' And I said, 'My love, that would be entirely up to you, and it doesn't make a difference to me.' But that he knows! It's a real privilege. Talk about the best education."
The Grammy and Golden Globe-winning actress snagged her big break playing a homicidal lesbian teen in the 1994 New Zealand film Heavenly Creatures, so she is no stranger to roles of a Sapphic nature.
She also is not the only Hollywood parent to be openly accepting of their possibly LGBT child.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Angelina Jolie said that her child, John, had been exploring their identity since they were just three years old.
"She wants to be a boy...So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys' everything. She thinks she's one of the brothers."
