A pair of convicted murderers set to carry out life sentences are set to marry next month in the UK’s first same-sex marriage behind bars.

Mikhail Gallatinov, 40, and Marc Goodwin, 31, have been given official permission for the ceremony at HMP Full Sutton, Yorkshire.
Gallatinov, a convicted pedophile, was jailed for strangling his male lover in 1997 at age 23. Goodwin was jailed in 2007 after being found guilty of murdering Malcolm Benfold, 57, who was beaten to death after he and two friends had decided to go ‘gay bashing’.
Details of the wedding have not yet been revealed, although a notice of marriage has allegedly been posted at the register office in Beverley.
“Prisoners are entitled to apply to be married in prison under the Marriages Act 1983,” says a Ministry of Justice spokesman. “This would take place at no cost to the taxpayer and there is no possibility that they would share a cell.”
